Although I like all your Ron/Hermione stories, this and Growl for Me are my favs.  I love the way you do first times, especially the almost-but-not-quite sex.  I'm trying to get better at reviews and I recently re-read this.

I recently came across a rec for this story so I re-read it and decided I should review here since the story really ougt to have more than no reviews.

It's really a wonderful story and, like some of your others, could be much longer to tell the same tale and it wouldn't be too much, at least if you wrote it.

I liked the juxtaposition at the start of Hermione's attitude compared to carefree Ron at the party.  The emotions all seemed spot on.

<i>He paced around her small kitchen. “Were you planning on telling me about this, or was it going to be another one of your secrets?”</i>

That line, in particular, was really good.  Just a little hint of problems they've had in canon, but it was nice that it wasn't some huge deal.  Leaving the end open was a great touch as well.

Nice to see this story updated.  I thought it was pretty IC how they came together without a whole lot of fuss and angst, once they realized they were on the same page.  I still am curious as to the Thoreau quote and what Ron might have gained by hesitating.  And I want to see what the fallout is once things come to light with friends, family, and, especially, Gus.  Ron's oral fixation was pretty funny.  Since they've come together is the end of the story pretty close?

A strong warning for this story, as it does contain the rape of a character and severe psychological trauma.

I meant to leave the review for this chapter, not the first, and delete wouldn't work!

Author's Response:

Hello dear danny- you are right, the next chapter is going to have a really hard blow for both Hermione and Ron, so no fairytale ending for this fic.  (You can still hold out some hope for the series though!)  I know this one really was a cliff-hanger; unfortunately, it was the longest chapter yet and needed to end somewhere.  Thanks for reviewing and reading.  It's always nice to hear from you.

Not a review but a question.  Will this be going in a trio direction or continuing with the H/Hr?  I almost never like Hermione with anyone but Ron, especially not Harry, Draco, Snape, other Weasley...well you get the idea.  I understand if you don't want to answer.

Author's Response:

Heya Danny- thanks for asking.  As far as if it will be a Trio fic, it will most definitely NOT go in that direction.

Will it be continuing with H/HR?  ::Risie smiles coyly, bites lower lip, and shrugs shoulders::  you'll have to keep reading for that...  I know, I know- you want more than that, right?  How about this:  I can only say that Hermione will end up with who she is truly meant to be with, but that doesn't mean the road will be an easy one (which is never has been with these two).  I think I've said it without saying it, yeah?

Next chapter should be here within the next day or so.

Thanks again for asking- always love to hear your thoughts.  :o)

Nice to see this updated.  I bet Mrs. Weasley is quite hacked off!   I'm glad you gave us more Ron/Hermione interaction and that Hermione seems guilty as well.  I'm also interested to see what's going on with Ginny now.

The H/Hr I still don't like; their relationship always seems creepy to me when it's sexualized.  And it's not just this story, there are other R/Hr stories written by authors that also do H/Hr, and the Harry-Hermione relationship seems creepy in some of those as well.

<i>It would never have occurred to me that my sweet, honest, straightforward Hermione could have done anything but tell my family the truth about their changed relationship.</i>

That line seemslike Ron has too high of an opinion of Hermione's honesty.  She certainly wasn't honest and straightforward about Krum!

Author's Response:

Hi Danny-

wow, thanks for giving me so much feedback!  Yes, Molly is quite upset, but relieved that her son is finally home.   I had the feeling you were going to enjoy seeing more of the Ron/Hermione interaction, which really is the heart of the fic.  More about Ginny is coming up!

As far as the H/Hr seeming a bit creepy, I think it's natural to feel that way about it.  I mean, the way they are described in canon, they really are like brother and sister.  The thought of sibling romance just seems wrong, yeah?  Additionally, with this chapter, we see in Ron's memory that he saw them that way as well.

Indeed, Ron does seem to have too much faith in Hermione's ability to be honest.  Ron may be versed in the ways of the world, but in many ways, he just wants to see the good in the people he loves, ignoring the rest.  He's very black-and-white like that.

Thanks so much, as always, for reading and reviewing!!

Oh, poor Ron.  He deserves so much better than finding Harry and Hermione together.  I appreciate that you aren't going for easy answers and quick solutions.  But I still just don't buy H/Hr.  There's a few R/Hr stories with H/Hr in them, including at least two others on this site, and the H/Hr always feels artificial to me, a way to create angst, not anything that the characters would actually ever do.

Reading other reviews I can't say I agree with the Trio solution, but then that gets back to H/Hr (H/R too) just not working for me, given that there's not a single romantic moment between them in canon and it's very clear they are simply platonic friends.  So I'm torn in your story; it's well written and I want things to work out for Ron but the setup just isn't working for me.

Author's Response:

Hi Danny- yes, Ron is really in a bind right now, and me taking a quick and easy out would not be in keeping with the seriousness of the situation.  It seems like the H/Hr is really hard for you to wrap your mind around.  I know I've said this before, but I tend to agree about H/HR, because they are clearly platonic in canon.  The reason that my scenario works for me is because they came together in a moment of searching for comfort from their pain.  This is the only way I could ever see that they might turn to each other and find something other than friendship.

Thank you so much for reviewing, and for being honest about the H/Hr not really working for you.  Despite the plot not working for you, thank you for the compliments about the writing style, which I'm glad you are enjoying.

Despite Leviathan's suggestion please don't go Trio!  But you know my tastes and I've never read Trio or H/Hr that really worked for me and kept the characters recognizable.  And I guess I do feel that way about Harry in this story, though I hope you do show something of them coming together or their relationship.  One positive is their relationship does seem creepy in this, something that most Trio fic and H/Hr fic forgets.  Sexualizing their relationship to me is akin to something like Ron/Ginny; I even like that pairing but it's explicitly creepy, unlike Trio and H/Hr that doesn't see that dynamic.

<i>"You can't hide forever, Ronnie.  Running away from them will only take you farther from happiness," she said, looking directly at me. </i>

I'm not sure I agree with Molly there.  But I guess I want Ron to live in a world where his friends wont' f**k, much less fall in love.  At the core he's such a wonderful person and he doesn't deserve that.

I really liked Molly and Ginny in this chapter which is quite an accomplishment.  I'm usually not the biggest fans of them.  The one thing I think Molly in my mind would be more protective of her children and inviting Harry and Hermione to dinner seems a bit much for her.

At the moment I'm kind of torn.  I want Ron and even Ginny to be happy and honestly don't think they can reasonably find that with Hermione and Harry, at least as it stands.  Maybe they could all repair their friendship but it would be nice for them to realize that loving someone isn't always enough; that sometimes those we love can be awful for us.  And I'd like to see Harry and Hermione really see the consequences of their terrible choice.  They may have been hurting but they did choose to sleep together, they did choose to create a horribly unhealthy relationship, and maybe they deserve to see how much that cost them.

The one specific quibble I have with this chapter is Ron masturbating to Hermione's memory.  Given the H/Hr I can't see him really being turned on by Hermione at the moment, much less allowing himself to go that far with it.

Author's Response:

Hey there!  This is the first time I've seen your name over here with the change!  :o)  Thank you so much for continuing to read and for the great, thought-provoking review!!!

I think I told you this a while ago, but it's highly unlikely for this fic to end up as a Trio fic.  I won't say never, because sometimes the muse strikes and refuses to listen to me.  However, the original storyline for this fic did not end up that way.  You've said the H/Hr thing is creepy several times for this fic, and I'm actually not offended at all.  I think I told you that I agree with you: in canon they're so obviously platonic that it makes sense for them to be screepy.  Also, that is an intended effect for this fic, to have their relationship seem that way.  Glad we can agree on this!

Yes, Ron deserves so much more and he's really got a whole world of grieving and pain ahead of him before he can try to move on- however he ends up doing that.  I think Molly was trying in her way to support him, but push him forward, to not let him wallow.

I'm so flattered you liked both Molly and Ginny, especially since I know how you feel about them!  Molly has a hard role in this, because it's like having to choose between her children- between her biological children and her children by choice.  Don't worry- Molly's part is not played out yet!

I completely agree that they all need to see the consequences of their actions before they can truly forgive or try to move onward.  The cost is terribly high for all of their mistakes and the pain will be pretty comparable I think.  It's going to be hard to show the H/Hr POV's, because this is first person Ron, but I'll try.  However, I'm thinking I might do a companion piece, from a different POV (haven't decided between H and Hr), to help fill in the gaps that just can't be filled from Ron's POV.

About Ron's shower scene, I actually hemmed and hawed about that quite a bit.  You had issues, some other people liked it.  ::shrugs::  The reason I left it in is because I feel like Ron is so steeped in his pain and his memories at this stage.  In many ways, he is still so completely in love with Hermione, but he's so angry with her.  Still, sometimes our bodies and minds take a while to catch up to what our hearts know, and I think she's still the subject of his fantasies, because it was an easier time.  Sure, there was a war and they were scared for their lives, but he knew they had each other- that seems simpler in many ways compared to what they have now.  But, I definitely wanted his ambivalence in there and how much he was fighting it, because you're right- he doesn't want to think about Hermione in those ways right now.  I definitely appreciate your honest thoughts about it!!!

Thanks again, hon!  *creme brulee for you*

I just wanted to note that I'm glad Ron allowed himself to grieve in this chapter.  And again, that's something I'd like to see Harry and Hermione go through once they truly realize what they've done and (hopefully!) what they've lost.

It's kind of interesting, R/Hr is the closest thing to a OTP I have but in this fic has me hoping they don't end up together, at least at the moment!  That's something really rare, especially in a story where I don't dislike everybody so I think you deserve some congratulations for that.

Author's Response:

Hey again!  Oh, thanks so much for that!  I thought it was really important that he get there, too.  We'll get some glimpses at Harry and Hermione, but not as much as Ron, because it's not from their POVs.  If I do the companion piece, their internal musings will certainly play a large role in that!

Wow, that is interesting!!!  I don't want them together at the moment either, because it wouldn't work as the state stands.  Thanks so much for mentioning it- makes me feel quite special!  ::hugs::

Wow, Ron is so conflicted here! It's nice to see some forward movement even though I still can't see any sort of "happy" conclusion to the storyline.

I chuckled a bit to myself, thinking how Harry had always insisted he thought that Sirius, Remus, and Tonks had been a threesome that became a twosome when his godfather died.

I did think that seemed a bit out of place, Harry thinking about a R/S/T threesome? And then Ron's subsequent pondering of a threesome, I just don't think he'd really even ever consider non-traditional relationships, much less for himself.

But definitely curious to see this conversation. I hope it doesn't take as long as the this chapter!

Author's Response:

Hi D!  Nice to see you're still reading.  :o)  Thanks for dropping in and letting me know your thoughts.  Ron really is conflicted about a lot here, but he knows what he needs to do.  I don't know that "happy" will ever refer to this fic, but I do think the ending will be hopefully, yet appropriate to the tone of the overall fic.

As far as thinking about threesomes, I actually think Ron had to think about non-traditional relationships given the territory this fic is in.  Not necessarily being able to see himself in one (canon Ron does appear fairly traditional in many aspects), but I think it would be odd for him not to think about it for a moment, especially with the current situation.  Either way, I appreciate the honest thought that it didn't work for you.

The conversation is the next thing I'm writing- I'm just tying up some other projects right now.  I promise the wait will be much shorter! *macaroons for you*
