This story, along with War and Passion was one of the first stories I had read and loved many years ago ( along with Barb's Pyschic Serpent trilogy) and I just realised that I had not left a review here. THis was indeed one of the first ones to show me a different side of hermione, the stubborn side that just refused to give may probably never get the chance to reveal to us what was going on from their perspective at the end of the War and Passion story.  It seems like their relationship is just doomed. and it is very depressing. But I still want to thank you for creating this scenario to give me things to think about with regard to -your- Ron and Hermione. In many ways this seems like the protoype characterisation for "More than Memories", which I am very glad you have updated recently.

A Matter of Perception by Redblaze Rated: RT - Restricted Themes starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 15]
Summary: Life isn't all that complicated for Fred Weasley. He has a loving family, a twin that understands him, and a sense of humor that sustains him even in the darkest of times. True, he may smoke too much, and he may have made a mistake that cost him the love of his life, but there's always hope. If not, whiskey and brothers to laugh with make up for it. . .almost. A Fred/Angelina outtake to the War and Passion Universe.

I have to say that this story has been one of my favourites for years. I adored both Fred and Angelina's predicaments in the story... and wish I knew what eventually happened between them after Fred found out about the empathy.  It's really hard to find good stories featuring this pairing. thanks

oh! I really liked the concept behind this. It was really quite interesting thinking about how they'd react to something like that happening. I do have to say that if Ron was being forced to google potter on the internet, he'd probably find the higher rated art before the fic though, which would be FAR more disturbing and quite immediate in reaction.

Author's Response: Thanks so much!

I worote this intending it to be madcap comedy, But Harry's integrity as a character -- I felt I had a pretty good grasp on him and Hermione, but not so much on Ron -- made him more angsty than funny!

As to Ron's Google Search, I think it's a safe
bet that Emma has "Safe Search" on in her
Google  preferences! Yeah, that's the ticket!

Summary: In the midst of the War, Hermione is kidnapped and held captive as Ron, Harry and Ginny search desperately for her. Hermione and Ron share a psychic connection, with which she tries to help him find her before it is too late.

A strong warning for this story, as it does contain the rape of a character and severe psychological trauma.

I'd forgotten how dark this  truly was... but this chapter brought in the image of the Death Eater glamoured as Ron... which is  obviously going to be an image that is hard for Hermione to deal with. I hope she recovers from the last  attack. Indeed I wouldn't be surprised if she ended  up like Alice Longbottom. What strikes me as most sad is how both she and ron missed their  chances with each other.

Author's Response:

Hi Natz!  Another review from you today- what a lovely surprise!  :o)  Yes, this truly was the darkest chapter in the fic thus far.  I really crossed a hard line with this one, I know.  However, she won't end up like Alice Longbottom- not by a long shot.  She just needs to recover from a massive and painful ordeal.    Interestingly enough, the part that made me the saddest to write actually was about how they had two near-misses in their relationship.  I know many people may be surprised by this, but that was the part that affected me the most.  ::shrugs::  True, everything else was graphic and horrid and disgusting.  The other stuff was wretched and made me feel horrible, but the emotional stuff was what kept killing me while I was writing it.  Thanks again for the support!

AHH!! Chapter 5  was up and I didn't know! I'm sitting here, wanting to know  what Harry thinks about all of this. Honestly. I don't want it to end up being simple. That wouldn't be  true to the situation. It has to have weight, meaning, consequence. SOMETHING. I'm just waiting for it.

Author's Response:

Hi Natz!!!  It was so great connecting with you today!  :o)

As far  as it ending up simple, it won't.  Everybody's in too deeply for that to happen.  You're right, it wouldn't be true to the story.  That doesn't mean there can't be a happy ending, but it's not going to be neat or a smoot ride to get there.  We're going to start getting into some meaty stuff- I'm just trying to get a chapter of Wake Me written and then I'll be back to this one for a couple chapters.  :o)  Thanks, as always, for the support!  You're wonderful.  ::hugs::

Oh, Interesting. I knew that there would be a moment like this. I am intrigued by how you have put a lot of the characterisation that we've talked about into these characters, especially the self perception of each of the trio. However, i do have to  admit, in canon, Harry is nowhere near as perceptive as this.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review!

I think Ron and Hermione are both sufficiently "Heart on the sleeve" types that their altered perceptions fo one another would be visible even to Harry. And what he notices, of course, is how beautiful they look to one another, not how he looks tp either of them.

hmm. I was a bit  taken aback by the things Molly said. Sure she's always been one to sometimes say things that aren't that nice, but it took a little leap of  faith to come to terms with what she said to Hermione about "having her eyes on Ron". That said, I did have a question with regards to the being stuck together thing. You mentioned the urination... but what about the other bodily function. I just find that a little odd, seeing as defecating is usually one of the most personal things humans do. I did like how Ron told off Sirius. But that's just personal satisfaction.

Author's Response: My take on Molly is that she didn't ever really think that of Hermione. I see Molly as beinmg a little bit judgemental, and a little too ready to strike out when she's hurt, with no thought that it can have consequences. Molly feels hurt. She's losing her little boy before she's ready.
So she strikes out, trying to hurt as she hurts. Hermione, as the creator of the situation, is her immediate target.

Molly will regret her harsh words for the rest of her life.

I have to tell you that I had to smack my face in utter beffudlement about 3  times during this chapter. I was just about as embarassed as Hermione was. Tis to be  somewhat expected I guess as her parents seemed quite open about  sex. It's just so odd, thinking about your dad informing your two partners about anal sex. Gives me the heebie jeebies honestly. I take it that you don't have a very good opinion  of Molly Weasley. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Author's Response: This was, then, the exact opposite of what you'd expected from Hermione's parents? That's very much what I was going for, shocking and embarrassing and out there, but really, in its way, very loving and protective, if practical. It's be damned embarrassing, but one could have worse parents than the Grangers. And I do, in fact, love Molly Weasley, very dearly. She's warm, loving, welcoming, protective... But not without flaws.

Ah, I take back my comment about not liking Molly. Your characterisation of her is just a little different from what I think of as her personality. I still don't think she would have openly accused Hermione of being a whore (oh and the word whore is misspelled). I understand where Ginny is coming from. It also seems like a very Ginny like position to be coming  from. I just never would have expected her to be that  blunt about it with her parents (maybe her brothers, but not her parents).

Author's Response: Well, I think I esxplained my thinking on Molly in my response to your review of Chapter Two. And, BTW, no "Whoare" wasn't a misspelling. It's an old-fashioned spelling, implying an old-fashioned morality. It's how Molly thinks of it, and has raised Ginny to think of it.

What Molly really meant was, "I'm in pain because of what you did, so I want you to hurt, too." It's not, perhaps, the most admirable thing, but it's very human.

hmm... Dursely retribution. I've been thinking about them recently, and what type of people they are. Vernon indeed is the worst sort of person. I have my doubts about Petunia though.

Author's Response: I'm not a bit fan of either of the Dursley parents. I think the only way Petunia can look good is standing next to Vernon. But that's not to say she can't be redeemed.

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I find myself so much engaging the interesting points you make in your reviews that I forget to say that, so... Thanks! I'm trying to move us out of "Oh wow we're stuck together" mode and start having one of those "plot" thingies I hear stories are supposed to have.
