Summary: After writing "Of Dwarves and Stewed Lucius" and being surprised by the responses I received both in Harry Potter and Tolkien fandoms, I wrote a survey paper on Harry Potter crossover fanfiction. I presented this paper at Lumos, a Harry Potter conference held in Las Vegas in July of 2006.

that was fascinating.
i've not read many crossovers, mainly because of the (pat answer no. 3 :~P ) fact that i feel i won't understand it if i'm not *into* that fandom. also i have the preconceieved notion that a lot of what i love about HP will be missing.
i think i would be most likely to read a fic with a character of other origins finds their way into the hp universe.
makes me feel very closed now, reading this work.

yeah. this is worth the rec. though i'm worried at what i'm getting myself into here....
They looked at each other in the mirror for a long moment and suddenly things were not so funny anymore.
"I'm sorry," Harry whispered.
a sorry harry just leaves me gutted.
Ginny was the only thing he'd ever had all to himself.
i love that whole analysis.
Harry only removed his glasses for two things, sleep and sex

i just love this. (not that this is any secret!)
i love how it has all built up to this point.
how george is finally showing lee his vulnerability and sensitivity.
and fred has been so marvellous, understanding despite his own prejudices etc, but i can imagine that knowing he was not the person george goes to first in this is going to be tough.
and i've told you how much i just heart lee when he calls him georgie, haven't i? *sighs*

I love that you've picked up on that about the different sides of Lee. I wanted to show different aspects of these men, certain strengths and weaknesses that complement each other. I think a lot of men in slash are portrayed as completely "top/bottom""dom/sub" rather than having equal parts of each.
