|Affiliate Interview - Harry/Ron 100|
This month we have the pleasure of sitting down with the two founders of HarryRon100, a drabble community on LiveJournal. Hardticket and Onadancefloor shed some light on this wonderful new community.
- Why did Harryron100 start? What gave you the idea?
I was the one who originally came up with the idea for harryron100
. Harry and Ron are my favorite slash ship and I am an avid reader of this pairing. I was reading rondracodrabble
one day and wondering if there was an equivalent for Harry and Ron. After some fruitless searching I found that there wasn't a community. This baffled me. I knew there was interest and a lot of avid Harry and Ron fans out there so I decided to find out how much interest I could get for a new community. I started pestering my friends list with questions about interest in the idea and asking for someone to help me maintain the community. That is where onadancefloor
comes into the picture. She decided to help me create . She is the reason it is so pretty. This is the first community that either of us has started so it has been a learning experience for both of us. I have to thank my Livejournal friends list because they were so supportive of the whole idea and were really quick to join up when we started. We are having so much fun with this every week.
- Who picks the prompts and how do you come up with them?
We take turn picking the prompts each week. Onadancefloor one week and me the next. I admit this week's prompt was mine. The best prompts usually just come off the top of your head. The more outlandish the better most times I admit I put some thought into this weeks prompt of blood. I wanted to get away from the fluffier and light drabbles and start exploring darker ideas. The funny part is that most of our writers have been trying all week to make this prompt lighter and take the angst out of it. I also had ulterior motive involved in this weeks prompt. I think our prompts in the future are going to start getting quirkier. We started out tame so that we could get used to everything. I like the idea of quirky. Hmmm…
Actually both of us, we take turns every week. How do I come up with the prompts? Well, so far it's been what kind of writing or themes do we want for that week. Sometimes we'll give prompts that might lean people toward certain themes like romance or angst, but most of the time the writers take the prompts and go beyond what we expected. I do notice though, that people are very adamant about moving away from angst.
- Tell us a bit about how the site works.
Well it is pretty simple we post a one word prompt every Sunday and our members reply with 100 word drabbles that include that word or somehow involve the idea. All drabble have to be centered around Harry and Ron whether it be friendship or otherwise. We are pretty relaxed about most things. The main aim of harryron100 is to have fun. We have been having a great time so far and there have been some exceptionally good drabbles. A drabble is much harder to do well than most people realize.
Every week we give a prompt, and members use the prompt to come up with a drabble. They may use the prompt in the drabble or be inspired by the prompt and use it in any way that they like. All drabbles must be centered around Harry and Ron and must be 100 words. The drabbles can be all ratings and anything goes. We're very lenient on what can be written.
- What are your future plans for harryron100? Anything exciting in the works?
We are still very much a work in progress. We definitely have some ideas. I like the idea of some sort of drabble exchange in the future or maybe a challenge. I would somehow like to incorporate drawbles into our community but have yet to figure out how to do this. Something unpredictable that will generate interest. I like to think outside the box.
What we'd love to add are either contests or drabble exchanges in the future. We are still in the beginning steps of our community and just getting the hang of things, but once we're passed that stage I feel very certain that we'll have more exciting things planned.
- What has been the most satisfying thing you've taken away from your experience managing harryron100?
All of the excellent drabble that we have gotten so far. It has also given me a chance to stretch my writing muscles. I haven't done that in a long time and it has been satisfying.
First, spreading the Harry/Ron love. But for me, what has been the most refreshing and entertaining part of running the community have been the stories the members have come up with. It's one of the wonders to watch every writer create their own plots, by using the same idea, and to watch where everyone takes your prompt each week. You also tend to see patterns in people's writing. And for those members who post often, you become familiar with their writing style, and I enjoy experiencing that.
